Why another app to track expenses?
As someone who’s always been obsessed with organisation, I’ve tried nearly every app out there to keep my life in order—whether it’s managing to-do lists, jotting down ideas, or tracking my expenses. Over the years, I’ve grown accustomed to using multiple tools for different tasks, but when it came to managing my expenses, I found myself increasingly frustrated. There was something missing in the existing apps—something I, as a user, really needed.
The gap in expense tracking apps
After using several expense trackers for a few years, it became clear that most apps were either too complex or too simplistic for my needs. They presented expenses as dry, impersonal data points and offered overwhelming charts and categories that often added more confusion than clarity. As a user, I wasn’t looking for overly sophisticated tools that required me to dive deep into complex analytics. I just wanted something simple, effective, and straightforward.
That’s when the idea for a new expense tracker started to take shape. I envisioned an app that would focus on simplicity while offering the core features I cared about. An app that was easy to use, effective in tracking my spending, and—most importantly—aligned with the way I think about my finances.
Solving the experience gap
When it comes to tracking expenses, it’s all about the user experience. Most apps treat expenses like isolated data points. They present you with endless numbers, charts, and complex metrics that you have to sift through in order to understand how your money is being spent. But in reality, when I want to look back at my spending, I don’t need to see piles of graphs and statistics. I just need to know: How much did I spend and on what?
To fix this, I built an app that simplifies expense tracking to its core. The design is minimalistic and focuses on the essentials. You can quickly log your expenses with just a few fields, making it easy to add transactions without overthinking it. And because the app organizes everything in a way that’s intuitive, you can always come back to it later to get a quick snapshot of where your money went—without the mental overload.
No overwhelming charts – Just simple, yet effective analytics
I don’t need advanced charts and graphs to tell me how I’m doing financially. I don’t need to understand every little detail of my spending—I just need to get a sense of my overall patterns and make decisions accordingly. Unfortunately, many apps overwhelm you with complicated charts that require a steep learning curve.
With this app, I’ve stripped away all the unnecessary complexity. The analytics are clear, concise, and presented in plain English. Instead of bar graphs and pie charts, you’ll see things that can be simply be deduced to “You’ve spent $150 on food this month—$50 more than last month.” It’s designed to be easy to read, helping you make quick decisions without wading through a sea of data.
Labels, not categories
One of my biggest pet peeves with traditional expense trackers is the rigid category system. When you log an expense, you’re forced to choose a category like “Food,” “Entertainment,” or “Transportation.” And as your expenses grow, you often find yourself trying to figure out what subcategory each transaction belongs to—often leading to frustration.
I wanted to create something simpler. That’s why I decided to remove the concept of categories altogether and introduce a more flexible system: Labels. Labels work like tags—they help you identify and trace a transaction back to a certain theme or idea. For example, if you spent money on lunch in office, you could add labels like “Work” & “Food”. No need to pick a specific category or worry about subcategories. Just add multiple labels to any transaction, and the app will automatically group them for you (more details).
This allows you to track your spending without the mental gymnastics of trying to classify each expense into the “right” category.
What Does the App Offer?
- Track your daily expenses effortlessly: Quickly log your transactions with minimal input.
- Analyze spending patterns with insightful analytics: Get simple, clear insights into your spending habits.
- Organize transactions using custom labels: Forget rigid categories—use labels to categorize and track expenses your way.
- Manage multiple accounts seamlessly: Keep track of your expenses across different accounts (bank accounts, credit cards, cash).
- Personalize app settings: Customize the app to your preferences—choose your language, your currency, and more.
